Catch The best of the action from England vs Windies 1st test Day 1 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
As from the England vs Windies 1st test Day 1 ended. England snuck out 4 for 24 in 6.4 overs to come right back into the contest, one which looked to be going away from them after five-and-a-half hours of solid batting from West Indies. Joe Root will be mighty relieved, given England’s selection seemed to have been questionable; Sam Curran didn’t make an impact but Ben Stokes certainly did and James Anderson finally found his groove again late in the day. Imagine if Jos Buttler had hung on to Shimron Hetmyer when he’d made just 3? Hetmyer was terrific, aside from that ill-judged run at the end, while Roston Chase and Shai Hope also made solid half-centuries – but West Indies needed someone to go on.
The Windies were sitting comfortably at 240/4 at one stage before crumbling to 264/8 by the end of the day’s play but at the end James Anderson produced a brilliant spell with the second new ball. Here are the highlights of Day 1 of the 1st Test.
